DELAND, Florida — A man who was upset at a woman, who refused his sexual advances, shocked her with a homemade stun gun, according to an arrest affidavit.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a battery in the DeLand area of Lake County around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The victim told a deputy she refused Manis Cantrell Jr.’s sexual advances and he became frustrated and began yelling profanities at her. During his tirade, he grabbed a homemade stun gun from the couch and shocked her four to five times in the right buttocks, the affidavit states. The victim was able to escape and contact law enforcement.
Cantrell, 48, told a deputy the victim slammed his hand in a door, but other than that their altercation was only verbal; but in his written statement, he advised the victim attacked him and he retrieved the “taser” as a means of protection. There were no signs of injuries on Cantrell, according to the affidavit. The homemade stun gun was fashioned from a flashlight with sharp metal inlays around the cap, and what appeared to be two 18650 lithium ion batteries and a momentary toggle switch, the deputy noted. The deputy tested the device and found that it worked as the victim described, discharging an electrical pulse.
Cantrell was charged with domestic battery and possession of an electric weapon by a convicted felon. Two violations of probation charges have been added and he is being held in the Lake County Jail on no bond.
