ORANGE COUNTY — The infant grandson of a Clermont couple is in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash on the Florida Turnpike Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Around 9:20 a.m. Friday, Frank Panetta, 69, of Clermont was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla southbound when he slowed for congestion near mile marker 262. Lucie Alexandre, 32, of Ocoee failed to slow down in the 2013 SUV she was driving and struck the rear of the Corolla.
Troopers immediately arrived on scene and removed a 4-month-old infant boy from his car seat in Panetta’s car, said FHP Lt. Kim Montes. Troopers performed CPR on the baby until fire rescue arrived, Montes said. He was transported to Arnold Palmer in critical condition. Panetta and his wife, Suzana Panetta, 71, also of Clermont, received minor injuries and were treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Alexandre received minor injuries. The crash is under investigation and charges are pending against Alexandre, Montes said.
