MOUNT DORA, Florida — The second victim in the armed robbery at a popular convenience store Monday night has succumbed to his injuries.
Khiem Ba “Ken” Trinh, 56, owner of T&N Market, 1345 North Grandview Street was shot multiple times shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, along with Minh “Tina” Nguyen, 47, during a robbery by an unknown assailant. Nguyen was pronounced dead on the scene Monday night and Trinh died Thursday, according to City of Mount Dora Spokeswoman Lisa McDonald.
On Wednesday, Mount Dora Police Department released surveillance video from outside the store that showed a single gunman running across the parking lot and accosting Trinh at his gray Honda minivan and forcing him back into the store at gunpoint. It is unclear what happened inside the store, but MDPD Interim Chief Brett Meade told reporters on Tuesday the couple were found behind the counter suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The gunman left the store carrying a white bag and ran across the parking lot at a slant until he was no longer in the camera’s view. Trinh initially survived his injuries and was airlifted to Central Florida Regional Medical Center in Sanford, where he later died.
Dozens of people attended a candlelight vigil and balloon release held at the store Tuesday night and a block party is planned for Saturday in their honor. The store, a staple in the northeast community of Mount Dora has been in business for more than 30 years and many of its patrons have frequented the store since they were children. The couple were well-liked in the community they served and numerous people have expressed their sorrow on social media.
Meade had a message for the community and the suspect Tuesday, “Collectively together, we will get through this, we will find this individual, he will get the justice he deserves.”
Crimeline is offering a $10,000 reward and signs have been posted in the area with its number and a reminder that tipsters can remain anonymous. If you have information, call 1-800-423-TIPS (8477.)
