CLERMONT, Florida- Two Walmart employees were busted last week for helping each other defraud the store.
A manager’s two-week investigation revealed Lissy Lanza Mora, 45, of Clermont and Juriely Alvarez, 34, also of Clermont, were processing fraudulent returns for each other at Walmart, 550 US Highway 27, Clermont, according to an arrest affidavit.
Alvarez told a Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy, “I have done several returns with an associate under [the] fresh guarantee, I don’t think it has passed $400,” the affidavit states. Alvarez was also videoed not scanning items she purchased in the self-checkout, according to the report.
Mora told deputies, “I do apologize, since my husband stopped working back in February things have been extremely rough. This doesn’t excuse my actions, but it is the reason, ”the affidavit states.
According to one Walmart’s website, the Fresh Produce Guarantee is a 100 percent money back satisfaction guarantee: “If customers are not completely satisfied with Walmart’s produce, they can bring back their receipt for a full refund. No questions asked and no need to bring back the produce.”
The two women would purchase items and later get a refund under the fresh produce guarantee. Both Alvarez and Mora participated in both sides of the scheme – both getting and issuing refunds. The total of all fraudulent transactions was around $700, according to the affidavit.
The manager provided deputies receipts, still photos and a total of 12 different videos, involving both women on video surveillance, beginning in September.
Alvarez was charged with scheme to defraud and retail petit theft. She was released on $6,000 bond. Mora was charged with scheme to defraud and released on $5,000 bond.
