DeLAND, Florida — A Umatilla man is dead after he laid down his motorcycle and was run over by a passing vehicle early Sunday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Kim Montes.
The 52-year-old man, who has not been identified, lost control of his motorcycle for an unknown reason and laid the bike down in the eastbound lane of County Road 42 near River Forest Boulevard just after midnight Sunday, Montes said in a press release.
The man and his motorcycle were struck by an SUV being driven by a 51-year-old DeLand man, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
The crash remains under investigation, Montes said.
