MOUNT DORA, Florida – Two men are facing numerous charges after police say they carjacked a man in the Publix parking lot in Mount Dora Monday afternoon. According to arrest affidavits, Michael Knapp, 50, and Michael Mulhern, 37, pulled in behind the victim in a black Volkswagen, they exited the vehicle and approached the victim. Knapp jumped into the victim’s Chevy Avalanche and put a gun to the right side of the victim’s head. The victim exited the vehicle and Knapp drove away with Mulhern behind the wheel of the Volkswagen following close behind.
Mount Dora police officers initiated a traffic stop and pulled over the Chevy in the Target parking lot. Another officer located the Volkswagen, also at Target. The victim positively identified Knapp and Mulhern as the men who carjacked him. The Chevy was searched and officers located a Glock handgun under the rear seat, a small plastic bag containing methamphetamine and a glass pipe. Knapp was arrested on charges of carjacking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine and possession a drug paraphernalia. Mulhern was arrested on charges of being a principal to carjacking.
