TAVARES, Florida — Three people are dead in what Tavares Police Department believes is a double murder-suicide, according to TPD Lt. Sarah Coursey.
TPD and crime scene investigators lined the well-kept street that was cordoned off with crime scene tape around 10 a.m. Thursday. Two adult males and one adult female were found dead in a home on Lakecrest Lane in what is a normally quiet neighborhood, neighbors told Lake Legal News on scene Thursday morning.
TPD has not released the names or ages of the people found, pending notification of next of kin, but they are known to each other, Coursey told LLN.
“It appears to be a double murder-suicide and there is no threat to the public,” Coursey said. “It’s a very senseless act.”
Neighbors spoke to LLN near the scene and said they heard multiple gunshots around 3 a.m. Thursday. One neighbor, who asked not to be identified said, “We know he (the man who lives in the home) had some issues. There was a confrontation in the road a few weeks, ago,” she said. Coursey confirmed TPD responded to the home in the past.
The unidentified neighbor said the home had recently been listed for sale.
This is a developing story.
