TAVARES, Florida — A 29-year-old Tavares man accused of causing $5,000 worth of damage to furniture at a local Holiday Inn Friday is facing a felony criminal mischief charge and possession of methamphetamine charge.
Zachary Edward Allen Jenkins told Tavares Police two unknown individuals were having sex in his room at Holiday Inn, 3601 West Burleigh Boulevard, Tavares, for two hours and he had been waiting outside the room for them to come out.
The arresting officer spoke with the manager who said Jenkins came to the front desk around 8:30 a.m. and said he had been waiting for two unknown people to leave his room for two hours and they had trashed the room. The manager said he had only made one key for the room and it would have been impossible for someone to get in the room without Jenkins knowing, according to an arrest affidavit. The manager told Jenkins to call law enforcement, to which he replied, “I don’t do cops.” The manager then called police.
The arresting officer entered the room with the help of maintenance and did not find anyone in the room but did find the bedding and both mattresses cut open and thrown on top of each other, the affidavit states. The manager estimated the damage to be $5,000. The officer detained Jenkins and upon searching him found a knife sheathed on the right side of his belt and a small bag containing methamphetamine.
Jenkins was taken to the Lake County Jail, where he was released on $3,000 bond.
