TAVARES, Florida — A local retail store employee has been charged with grand theft after admitting he stole more than $6,000 using Green Dot cards to pay child support and court fees.
Huey P. Weathersby, 23, is facing one count of grand theft after admitting to a Dollar General district manager and loss prevention specialist that he loaded more than $6,000 and the prepaid debit cards, according to an arrest affidavit. He provided a written statement to Dollar General employees stating he was in a “bind with child support, bills and court fees,” the affidavit states. He said he was on the verge of being homeless and did not know what to do, according to the affidavit.
Tavares Police Department arrested Weathersby Wednesday afternoon and transported him to the Lake County Jail, where he was released on $2,000 bond.
