TAVARES, Florida — A man who was just released from the hospital Friday afternoon carjacked a woman in the parking lot, said Tavares Police Lt. Sarah Coursey. He was released on bond from the Lake County Jail the previous Friday.
Michael Anthony Moore, 23, approached a woman in the parking lot of AdventHealth Waterman, 1000 Waterman Way, Tavares around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon after just being released as a patient, Coursey told Lake Legal News. He saw the victim sitting in her vehicle and told her to get out; the woman refused, and Moore threatened her and took the vehicle, Coursey said.
Moore was spotted in the stolen vehicle by a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy and he ditched it near Publix Super Market at Loch Leven Landing in Mount Dora and fled on foot. He was found and taken into custody.
“He was checked out again by the hospital, now he’s in jail,” Coursey said.
Moore posted a $6,000 bond on June 19 to gain his release on charges of grand theft, stolen debit card and fraud. His current charges are carjacking without a weapon and felony fleeing and eluding; bond is $25,000 as to the carjacking and “no bond” as to the driving offense.
