LADY LAKE, Florida — A 59-year-old woman accused of trying to break into her former home so she could see her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend was charged with criminal mischief early Sunday morning.
Lady Lake Police responded to a 9-1-1 call from a home on Aloha Way around 3 a.m. Sunday and the residents told police they were sleeping when they heard noises like someone was trying to break in. The male victim said he saw Maria Josefa Hernandez’s hand through an opening in the back door. Hernandez, of Hollywood, Florida broke a window in a door and started screaming at the male victim in Spanish, stating she wanted to see his new girlfriend.
Hernandez told the man he was never going to forget what was going to happen to him and then broke a back window in the home and fled the scene. The man told police he had dated Hernandez for four to five years and she had lived at the home, but he had not seen or spoken to her since he broke up with her two years ago. He told police Hernandez did constantly try to contact him, through calls and texts, but he ignores her and does not associate with her anymore, according to the affidavit.
Police contacted Hernandez by phone and she told the officer she had been sound asleep at her home in Hollywood. She was eventually found at a local motel and she told police she was in the area looking at houses and went by the victim’s home to try to reconcile their relationship. Police asked her why she broke the window and she said she just, “smacked” it, according to the affidavit.
Hernandez was taken to the Lake County Jail where she was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
