TAVARES, Florida — TAVARES, Florida- Tavares Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon.
Occupants in two vehicles reportedly fired multiple shots at each other near the intersection of Merry Road and Kellogg Drive in the Chelsea Oaks subdivision, around 3 p.m., Tavares Police Sgt. Sarah Coursey said. Chelsea Oaks is located near the Golden Triangle YMCA.
A Chrysler minivan fled the scene with at least two occupants and a white vehicle crashed into a retention pond at the end of Merry Road. The two occupants of that vehicle, described only as wearing black hoodies fled on foot, Coursey said. No one was injured.
TPD set up a perimeter and K-9 units tracked them to a nearby parking lot and then lost the trail. Police believe someone picked them up. Officers are interviewing witnesses and asking for any video surveillance that may have picked up the incident. “We are currently canvassing the neighborhood,” Coursey said.
No one is in custody and it’s an ongoing investigation. If you have information on the shooting, call Tavares Police at 352-742-6200.
