LAKE COUNTY, Florida — The southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike at mile marker 271 are expected to closed throughout the evening following a fatal multi-vehicle crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Kim Montes.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., FHP released preliminary information regarding a multi-vehicle crash on the Florida Turnpike Tuesday afternoon. Around 4:30 p.m., a vehicle was disabled on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike when another vehicle struck it, causing a chain-reaction crash involving a total of seven vehicles, Montes said in an email. “This is a complex crash, involving multiple vehicles.”
One person died at a local hospital and four other people were transported. The crash remains under investigation.
This is a developing story.
