MOUNT DORA, Florida — Two teenage boys were arrested Wednesday for having a gun on a high school campus.
Mount Dora High School was locked down for 30 to 45 minutes Wednesday, Mount Dora Deputy Police Chief Michael Fewless told Lake Legal News Wednesday afternoon. Just before 1 p.m., a school resource officer received a tip there was a gun on campus and the officer and a school guardian responded to the area and requested backup from Mount Dora Police Department.
According to a press release, the gun was found approximately three minutes after it was reported and the two boys, 16, and 17, (LLN is not naming the boys, due to their ages) were taken into custody and a .25 ACP handgun was recovered. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded with a K-9 unit and conducted a building search for other weapons. None were found. Police do not believe any staff members or students were in immediate danger.
The boys are each facing a charge of possessing a firearm on school property.
