LEESBURG, Florida — Leesburg Police Department is investigating after a 62-year-old man was shot Sunday night at his own home and later died at an area hospital, according to LPD Capt. Joe Iozzi.
LPD responded to 1024 Tuskegee Street shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday in reference to a shooting and found Lewis Dukes suffering from at least one gunshot to the upper torso, Iozzi stated in a press release.
“He was conscious and breathing at the time and provided information to the responding officers while on scene,” Iozzi said. Dukes was flown to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
“The crime doesn’t necessarily appear to be random, however motive and suspect information remains under investigation at this time,” Iozzi told Lake Legal News in an email.
If you have information on Dukes’ death, call LPD at (352) 728-9862 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
