LEESBURG, Florida — A man accused of shooting at a vehicle with his ex-girlfriend and two other people in it, is in the Lake County Jail, being held on $16,000 bond.
Courey Devonne Nelams, 22, of Leesburg is accused of shooting at a white Buick on Tuskegee Street Sunday. Nelams’ ex-girlfriend told Leesburg Police she was at Tyler’s Market, 2201 Griffin Road, Leesburg when she saw Nelams staring at her with a large lump in his pocket, according to an arrest affidavit.
She drove out of the parking lot of the store with her two passengers and as she made her way down Tuskegee Street, she saw Nelams in the backyard of a home on Georgia Avenue. As her vehicle approached Nelams, he fired what she believed was five shots, striking the vehicle at least three times. She fled the area and called police.
The woman identified Nelams to police and said she wanted to press charges, but her passengers did not, they told police they would, “handle their business,” according to the arrest affidavit.
Nelams was charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, discharging a firearm in public and aggravated assault with a firearm.
