LEESBURG, Florida — An accused burglar Lake Legal News first reported on in January is now facing charges of providing false information to a pawnbroker and organized theft/dealing in stolen property.
In January, an employee of Gator Storage, 2604 South Street, Leesburg told police Brandy Elise Daniel Allen, 35, said her husband, Gregory Wayne Allen, 36, had stolen a trailer from the storage facility and altered its appearance. Allen had been using it for several months to transport other stolen items, Brandy Allen said. Police responded to Allen’s home and found the trailer sitting out front.
Police searched the home and the trailer and found items from three separate Leesburg burglary cases; Allen was interviewed, and he confessed to stealing the trailer and other items from Gator Storage. Allen was charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of grand theft with breaking and entering, one count of grand theft and one count of tampering with evidence in January.
Allen pawned some of the stolen items at a local pawn shop, and police’s efforts to view the items were delayed due to COVID-19 and a change in ownership. Once the items were viewed, police found at least four items Allen pawned that were stolen, including an Apple laptop, according to an arrest affidavit.
Allen, who has been incarcerated at the Lake County Jail since his arrest in January is facing a total of 16 charges related to the thefts. He is being held on $59,500 bond.
