LEESBURG, Florida – A Carver Middle School student is facing criminal charges and a suspension from school after he led other students to believe he had a gun.
According to an arrest affidavit, a witness contacted her mother and told her a 14-year-old student had a gun. The information was relayed to Carver’s school resource deputy and he questioned the witness who told him the 14-year-old student threatened another student and lifted up his shirt and showed a black handle that appeared to be a gun. That student told the SRD a similar story, according to the affidavit.
Yet another student told the SRD the 14-year-old suspect made a comment the day before about being mad at a teacher because the teacher was messing with him and he was going to bring a gun to school and referred to the gun as a “Glock,” the affidavit stated.
The SRD questioned the student suspected of having a gun and as he searched him, he felt a heavy object at the bottom of his sweatpants which the SRD believed to be a firearm. The SRD walked the suspect into his office and found a soldering gun, not a firearm. The boy told the SRD he told fellow students he was going to bring the Glock to school because a teacher said he smelled like “[expletive],” and it was a “stupid decision” to bring the tool to school.
His parents responded to the school and were made aware of the incident, the report states.
