LEESBURG, Florida — A woman who was released on her own recognizance last month during a mass release of Lake County Jail inmates in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, is back in jail accused of trying to hit vehicles with a metal pipe on a busy roadway Sunday.
Lake Legal News first reported on Amy Beth Hunt, 34, when she was accused of shooting a man with a BB gun on March 3 at Trout Canal in Eustis. She was charged with battery (second offense) and resisting an officer without violence and was held on $6,000 bond until she was released ROR on March 18. Hunt was released under an order signed by Lake Circuit Judge Heidi Davis due to COVID-19; a total of 42 inmates were released.
Around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the area of County Road 452 and South Em En El Grove Road on a report of a suspicious female wearing camouflage pants, attempting to hit vehicles with a pipe. The deputy observed Hunt walking on the side of County Road 452 carrying a 3-foot long black metal pipe. The deputy made contact with Hunt and she told him she was, “in fact trying to hit cars because she was having a nicotine fit and she was angry that no one would stop and give her a cigarette,” the affidavit states. The deputy told her not to hit vehicles with the pole and to step out of the roadway, and Hunt continued on her way.
As vehicles began to pass, the deputy watched Hunt try to hit three of them with the pole, all three vehicles had to swerve to avoid being hit by the pole, the deputy noted in the affidavit. The deputy made contact with Hunt again and told her she was being placed under arrest. She attempted to pull away several times and was taken into custody. Hunt was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence. She is being held in the Lake County Jail on $2,000 bond.
