CLERMONT, Florida — While most people are adhering to health guidelines to “stay at home” during the coronavirus pandemic, one woman ventured out to steal Corona beer late Monday night.
Susan Marie Pou, 37, is accused of taking two 18-packs — one in each hand — of Corona beer from Wawa, 1909 US Highway 27, Clermont around 11:30 p.m. Monday. According to an arrest affidavit, around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, an employee told a Clermont Police officer that a woman, later identified as Pou, selected the beer and walked out of the back entrance of the store without paying.
Earlier in the evening, approximately 10 minutes after the alleged theft, the same officer backed up another officer who made contact with two suspicious people, one of them carrying an 18-pack of Corona beer. Police identified the pair as Pou and her boyfriend. Lake Legal News is not naming her boyfriend because he was not charged with a crime. Police asked the couple where they got the beer and they said it was purchased from Walmart.
Police later viewed the surveillance video from Wawa and positively identified Pou as the thief; an employee also identified Pou.
Pou was charged with retail theft and is being held at the Lake County Jail on $500 bond.
