LADY LAKE, Florida — A Lady Lake woman already wanted for child neglect racked up three more criminal charges Friday when a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy pulled her over to apprehend her on the arrest warrant.
Destinee Rose Keen, 28, took an unresponsive 3-year-old child to The Villages Regional Hospital on Sept. 11, according to a probable cause affidavit. LCSO met with a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputy who told them the child was given Narcan and intubated and started to “come around” and extubated, according to the affidavit. The SCSO deputy said the child then “crashed” and was given two more doses of Narcan. The toddler had amphetamine and fentanyl in his system, according to the affidavit. Due to heavy redaction, the relationship between Keen and the child is unknown.
The tot, who stopped breathing at one point during the incident, was transported to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando and was lethargic and had to be given oxygen for respiratory issues, the affidavit states.
Keen told LCSO she had powdered “Molly” in her bra and forgot about it when she took her bra off the day of the incident. She said the toddler may have gotten the drugs, and at one point the child began breathing in an odd way. She ran outside to her friend and the friend transported the pair to the hospital, according to the affidavit. Keen consented to a urine test for DCF and she tested positive for THC, MDMA, amphetamines and methamphetamines. She also consented to a search of her home on Griffin Avenue in Lady Lake and smoking devices and a white powdery substance was found in various parts of the home, the affidavit states.
A warrant was issued for Keen’s arrest on Wednesday. On Friday, Keen was spotted by an LCSO deputy and pulled over; when asked if she had anything on her that she did not want to take to the jail, Keen allegedly said she had something inside her bra. She was searched by a female officer and found with two bags of apparent drugs, one that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to an arrest affidavit.
Keen was taken into custody and at the Lake County Jail; she was found with a cigar package and two baggies in her bra that also appeared to be drugs; one tested positive for heroin.
Keen was charged with child neglect (domestic,) possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine and introduction of contraband into a jail. She is being held in the LCJ on no bond.
