LEESBURG, Florida – A man who cut his own throat and smeared the blood on a female family member’s face last month was arrested at LifeStream Wednesday, according to a probable cause affidavit. Previously he had sat on a propane tank outside the same victim’s room and tried to light it.
Tyler Robert Husted, 28, is charged with domestic battery and witness tampering in an incident at his home in the Emerald Lakes Mobile Village, 1401 W. Highway 50, Clermont, on Oct. 6. Just after 8 a.m. that morning, Clermont Police responded to a call in reference to a suicidal subject. The female victim, a relative of Husted’s told police Husted jumped on her while she was lying on the couch and cut his own throat with a razor. The victim kicked Husted off of her and went into the bathroom to take a shower, the affidavit stated.
After her shower, she walked into the kitchen and say Husted sitting on the porch. She made a phone call and Husted, covered in blood, entered the home and slapped her face, smearing blood down her cheeks, according to the affidavit. She told Husted she was going to call the police and he allegedly grabbed her phone from her and threw it across the room. Husted approached officers with a sharp weapon when they arrived and he was tased, according to police.
Husted has been Baker Acted numerous times recently, the officer noted in the affidavit. In the most recent incident before Oct. 6, Husted moved a propane tank outside the same victim’s room, sat on it, and attempted to light it. The only thing that kept tank from igniting was moisture on the tank, the officer stated. About a week before the warrant was served, while Husted was in Lifestream on a law enforcement Baker Act, he lied about a scheduled surgery and was released. He was then issued a doctor Baker Act,’ according to the affidavit. The victim believed he lied so he could get out and harm her.
“(The victim) is terrified of Tyler (Husted) due to past and current behaviors towards her and lives in fear while Tyler is free. (Husted’s) history of violence towards himself (multiple suicide attempts) and her poses and exigent threat to the (victim’s) life and the public,” the officer stated in the affidavit.
Husted is being held at the Lake County Jail on $10,000 bond.
