ALTOONA, Florida — A teenage girl was killed in an ATV crash Wednesday — just five days before the start of the school year — according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 16-year-old Altoona girl was traveling northbound on a dirt road near the intersection of Ravenswood Road on an ATV when she traveled into the path of a sedan traveling eastbound on Ravenswood Road around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to FHP Lt. Kim Montes.
The sedan, being driven by a 16-year-old boy of Leesburg, struck the ATV and the girl died on the scene; she was not wearing a helmet.
The boy was uninjured and was wearing a seatbelt, Montes said in a press release. The crash remains under investigation.
