TAVARES, Florida – Lake Legal News has learned that distinguished Circuit Judge Mark J. Hill, who first took the local bench in 1985, has set May 31 as the effective date for his retirement.
Hill began his Lake County legal career by serving as an assistant state attorney, followed by time spent in private practice, until he was elected to serve as a county court judge in 1985. While still serving as a county judge – together with G. Richard Singletary – both jurists were given the responsibility of presiding over a special “third degree felony docket” – technically the responsibility of circuit judges. Before long, Hill was appointed to become a circuit judge by Gov. Bob Martinez in 1985.
