TAVARES, Florida — Tavares Police Department is investigating a shooting that resulted in a murder Sunday night.
Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, police responded to Ingraham Park, located near Main Street and Lake Avenue in reference to several shots being fired, said Tavares Police Sgt. Sarah Coursey. Police found Terence Hill, 43, suffering from at least one gunshot wound and immediately began performing CPR, Coursey said.
Hill was rushed to AdventHealth Waterman where he succumbed to his injuries. Police do have suspects and are actively investigating, Coursey said.
This at least the fourth shooting and second murder at Ingraham Park since 2012, Coursey said.
TPD has quarterly race relations meetings with local Pastor Mike Watkins and Ingraham Park is one of the issues they have spoken about, Coursey told Lake Legal News. “Pastor Mike and [TPD] were planning a cookout to help the situation down there,” she said. “It’s an uphill battle.”
“Most people want the park to be a happy place for children and families to hang out, but unfortunately there are a few who ruin it for the rest,” Coursey explained to LLN. “We, as a community want to see it restored to a park for all to enjoy.”
