GRAND ISLAND, Florida — A Grand Island man was charged with child abuse after jumping out of the shower naked and tackling a child in an effort to recover a jar of marijuana.
According to an arrest affidavit, a woman found a large Mason jar full of marijuana in her closet and asked a juvenile to get rid of it while Jeffrey Robert Thompson, 46, was in the shower. Thompson exited the shower — naked and wet — and wrestled the child over the jar. The affidavit states Thompson ripped the juvenile’s shirt in the process.
Upon arrival, a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy found the child had cuts to his stomach and right hand and a raised red area above his left eye. Thompson reportedly told the deputy the woman was mad about finding a meth pipe and when he went outside to burn the pipe he later saw the woman had given the child the marijuana jar. Thompson said he yelled at the woman and attempted to get it back from the child. During the interview, the deputy observed a cut on Thompson’s left hand with fresh blood, the affidavit states.
Thompson is described in the report as having been “jittery and appear[ing] agitated” during the investigation and the child is described as having been “extremely upset [and] crying.”
Thompson was charged with child abuse and taken to the Lake County Jail. He was released Tuesday on $2,000 bond.
