CLERMONT, Florida – A teacher’s assistant who was fired from Clermont Elementary was arrested Friday after refusing to leave school grounds.
According to an arrest affidavit, L’Shell Alicia Gordon, 43, of Clermont was fired Thursday and returned to the school Friday, attempting to gain access. The school resource officer (SRO) responded to the main entrance and told Gordon she was no longer welcome on school property; the officer further explained this included all the parking lots. Gordon told him she understood and walked to her vehicle.
The officer watched her get in and out of her vehicle for about 10 minutes and a teacher told him Gordon was asking teachers to let her in. The officer called for backup and drove over to where Gordon was parked. When the officer pulled up, Gordon approached the driver’s side door aggressively; the SRO told her to back up and reminded her she was trespassing, according to the arrest report.
The officer asked for identification and she yelled, “No, I’m not giving you my driver’s license and I’m not terminated!” He told Gordon she was obstructing his investigation and reminded her again she was trespassing, the affidavit states. She yelled again, “I’m not leaving. This is not school property!” The SRO told Gordon she was under arrest and to put her hands behind her back. Gordon began yelling, “I’m not getting arrested!” The affidavit reports that the officer grabbed her right arm and told her not to resist. She screamed, “Look I’m getting arrested and getting beat up!”
Gordon allegedly pulled away from the SRO, sat on the grass and continued to yell, “I’m not fired!” The SRO told her to get up. She got up and yelled, “I’m not fired and I’m not getting arrested! I am going to run onto the road and get hit by a car!” There was significant traffic in the area due to children being dropped off for school, the SRO noted in the affidavit. Gordon continued to resist and she was “redirected to the ground,” the affidavit states.
She was arrested and charged with trespassing on school grounds and two counts of resisting an officer without violence. She is being held at the Lake County Jail on $7,000 bond.
