LAKE COUNTY, Florida – Two men who were killed in separate traffic crashes in South Lake County this month were identified by the Florida Highway Patrol Monday.
David Meadows, 65, of Groveland was northbound on US Highway 27 near Villa City Road in Groveland on Dec. 5, when he suffered a medical episode, lost control of the 2013 Ford pickup he was driving and crossed the median into the southbound lanes, said FHP Lt. Kim Montes in a press release.
Shirley Avila Cruz, 42, of Leesburg, swerved to avoid hitting the Ford, but it struck the left rear of the 2009 Toyota SUV she was driving. The Ford then left the roadway and struck a fence.
Meadows was taken to South Lake Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Cruz was not injured.
In Clermont, Michael Lynch, 44, was killed Sunday morning when his motorcycle was struck by a local man driving a camper according to FHP.
Around 9:22 a.m. Kenneth Costa, 74, of Minneola was driving his 2006 Gulf camper northbound on County Road 561 when he attempted to make a left turn on Bruce Hunt Road. He struck a 1996 Yamaha motorcycle being driven by Lynch, of Windermere, said Montes in a press release. Lynch was wearing a helmet.
The crash remains under investigation.
