DeLAND, Florida — A man is being treated at a local hospital after he was shot by a Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy Sunday afternoon.
LCSO deputies responded to multiple reports of an armed trespasser in a horse pasture in the area of 43340 Cooter Pond Road in the DeLand area of east Lake County around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, according to LCSO Lt. John Herrell. The man fled into a wooded area as an LCSO deputy arrived.
“Deputies searched the wooded area for the suspect and ultimately encountered him, at which time he was shot,“ Herrell said in a press release.
The suspect has non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, Herrell said. The man’s name is not being released at this time.
LCSO has requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to investigate, standard procedure in a law enforcement-involved shooting.
This is a developing story.
