EUSTIS, Florida — A traffic stop for illegal tint led to child neglect and drug charges for a Eustis man Saturday.
Around 4:15 p.m. Saturday, a Eustis Police Officer spotted what he believed to be illegal tint on a white passenger car and pulled the car over to check it, according to an arrest affidavit. The tint registered at 7.9 percent, meaning the tint only allows 7.9 percent of sunlight in. (In Florida, tint on the front driver or passenger window must allow 28 percent or more light to pass through to be legal.)
The officer told the driver, Terrance Lamonus Alexander, 35, the tint was illegal and made contact with an 8-year-old child in the car, according to the affidavit. Alexander gave consent to search the car, and in the center console, police found 31 grams of powder cocaine and 5.8 grams of crack cocaine-all within reach of the 8-year-old child, the affidavit states. The arresting officer also found empty bags and a scale.
Alexander, who was already on probation for possession of cocaine, was charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of drug equipment and child neglect. The bond on those charges is $33,000. He is being held at the Lake County Jail on no bond for the violation of probation.
