EUSTIS, Florida — The long arm of the law caught up with a man Eustis Police Department has been looking for since Jan. 1.
Eustis Police were on the lookout for theft suspect Christopher Lamar Edwards, Lake Legal News reported in January. Edwards, 34, is accused of stealing lawn equipment valued at more than $1,000 from a home in December. According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim was able to identify Edwards as the thief, made contact with him and requested he return his equipment. Edwards told the victim he would have to retrieve the property and the pair began communicating on Facebook Messenger,
Edwards was unable to produce the victim’s equipment and the victim called police. He told police the items were stolen from an unlocked shed that was behind a secured gate and he believed Edwards hopped the gate to gain access, according to the affidavit. The victim told police some of his neighbors saw the suspect and three of them identified Edwards. Edwards is also suspected of stealing cash right out of the register of a local business.
Edwards was arrested in Sumter County and transported to the Lake County Jail Saturday. He was charged with petit theft, burglary and two counts of grand theft. He is being held on $10,000 bond.
