EUSTIS, Florida — A homeless woman was charged with battery and resisting arrest after a man told police she shot him with a BB gun.
Eustis Police responded to Trout Canal, located behind 1 West Laurel Oak Drive around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday on a report by a man who said he was shot by a woman with a BB gun or a sling shot, according to an arrest affidavit. Upon arrival, police found a woman matching the victim’s description of the woman and identified her as Amy Beth Hunt, 36. Hunt told police the man was hanging by the creek and she believed he had followed her; Hunt said she did not know the man and he kept approaching the bushes where she was camping. She said he put on a pair of boots and she felt like he was trying to entice her while putting on the boots. An officer asked her if she felt threatened by the victim’s presence and she said no. She also said she offered him a bottle of water. Hunt said as the victim walked away from the creek, he yelled out, due to a “bug biting him,” the affidavit states.
The victim told police a different story. He said was fishing by the creek when Hunt approached him and asked for the time. She then went to a picnic table, grabbed a bottle of water, threw it at his feet and told him, “That’s all I have to give,” the affidavit states. The victim continued to fish and saw Hunt enter and exit her camp several times. The victim heard something go by him, he told police, and about 10 seconds later he was struck in the back with a BB. Police did find an injury consistent with being shot with a BB gun, according to the affidavit. The victim yelled out and went back to his car and Hunt said, “What, did a bug bite you?” The victim replied, “No, you shot me,” and Hunt said, “that’s what you get.” The victim said he never approached Hunt’s camp.
Police searched the area where Hunt is living and found a Daisy Buck BB gun. Officers attempted to take her into custody and she tensed up and tried to pull away, the affidavit states. Hunt was charged with resisting arrest and battery (second offense) and is being held in the Lake County Jail on $6,000 bond.
