PAISLEY, Florida – A 29-year-old DeLand man accused of hitting a child with a PVC pipe and leaving 2 to 3 inch bruises landed behind bars on a $2,000 bond.
On Monday, the child told a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy Joshua Kyle Heinlen struck him with a PVC pipe Saturday after accusing the child of having a “smoking pipe” in his belongings, according to an arrest affidavit. “[Heinlen] was angry and yelling at him about a pipe that the defendant’s girlfriend stated she found in the victim’s belongings. The defendant then picked up a nearby orange PVC pipe, which was described by the victim as 3 foot (sic) long and 1 inch thick, and pushed the victim to the ground,” the affidavit states.
Heinlen allegedly held the victim down with his knee and struck him several times with the pipe. Heinlen’s girlfriend later told him she did not believe the pipe belonged to the victim and Heinlen apologized to the victim and “appeared to almost tear up,” the victim told a deputy. The victim still had several bruises Monday – two days after the incident.
The deputy interviewed Heinlen and he told the deputy his girlfriend told him she found a pipe in the victim’s clothes while doing laundry. He said he picked up a white PVC pipe that was 16 inches long and 3 inches wide and struck the child four times.
Heinlen was charged with child abuse and bonded out from the Lake County Jail.
