MOUNT DORA, Florida — Two men are in custody for the murder of a 27-year-old man in June in unincorporated Mount Dora, and a warrant has been issued for a third man.
David “Dubs” Julian Murrell, 18, of Eustis and Maurice Latrod Benn Jr. 19, of Fruitland Park are accused of approaching the car Tevin L. Williams was in on June 19 at 3801 West Old U.S. Highway 441, Mount Dora, shooting him in the head and killing him, according to a probable cause affidavit.
“There are clear indications that this incident was drug related,” Lake County Sheriff’s Office Lt. John Herrell said the day following the murder.
A witness told LCSO she was in the car with Williams when several black males approached the car and began shooting. The witness fled the scene and found someone to call 9-1-1, the affidavit states. Williams was pronounced dead on the scene.
Murrell is charged with felony murder and two counts of robbery with a firearm. He is being held in the LCJ on $125,000 bond. Benn, who is also facing an attempted first-degree murder charge and a charge of aggravated battery with great bodily harm in Orange County, is charged with robbery with a firearm and felony murder. His bond was revoked in the Orange County case and he is being held in no bond in the LCJ.
A warrant has been issued for Roderick “Ricky” Leonard Jackson Jr. 19, for felony murder and robbery with a firearm, but he is not in custody yet, LCSO Sgt. Fred Jones told Lake Legal News Monday.
