TAVARES, Florida — A 15-year-old girl was hit on her bicycle before sunrise Monday and is critical condition, said Tavares Police Sgt. Sarah Coursey.
“A student was hit while trying to cross (State Road) 19,” Coursey said. The girl, who has not been identified, was attempting to cross State Road 19 at Main Street just after 6:30 a.m. Monday morning when she was hit by a silver 2004 Ford Escape. The Escape had the right of way and no charges have been filed against the driver of the Escape, Coursey said.
The girl was transported by ground to the hospital due to weather conditions and later airlifted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. She is in critical condition.
