LEESBURG, Florida – Two Marion County men were busted for molesting coin-operated vacuums at a car wash early Monday morning at Squirt the Dirt on CR 473.
Leesburg Police responded to two silent alarms around 4:30 a.m. at the car wash, located at 32313 CR 473, and found Michael Boyd, 37, standing near a silver Hyundai SUV backed into the second bay. He told police his cousin, John E. Dyson was asleep in backseat. An officer walked around the back of the Hyundai to run the tag and discovered it was obscured with black tape. He peeled the tape and while giving the tag information to the communications center, he spotted Dyson, 34, slowly drop a power drill over the backseat into the trunk. Boyd and Dyson spoke with one officer while another searched the property for crimes.
The officer found two self-serve vacuums had been pried open, while another officer found the car wash keyhole had been drilled. A simple look through the Hyundai’s window and an officer spotted a large prying tool, a drill bit with fresh metal shavings and a pile of quarters. Both suspects continued to deny their involvement until a sergeant showed up on scene. While one officer was showing the sergeant the damaged property, Boyd confessed to another officer.
Both men were charged with three counts each of molesting a coin-operated machine, possession of burglary tools and burglary. Boyd is being held on $62,000 bond and Dyson is being held on $27,000 bond.
