LEESBURG, Florida – A woman told police she is in fear for her life after her ex-boyfriend broke a third floor window in her bedroom at Laurel Oaks Apartments.
Dustin Ivey, 30, of Fruitland Park was supposed to watch the victim’s children so she could work Friday night. Ivey never came or called and the victim called in sick to work and went to visit a friend. When she returned home around 11:30 p.m. she noticed toys out of place, but chalked it up to the stress of dealing with Ivey, the affidavit states. She placed a broom handle in her sliding glass door before bed for added security and fell asleep. She awoke around 12:30 a.m. to a call from Ivey asking whether he could come over. The victim said no, hung up and put her phone on “do not disturb,” according to the affidavit.
Around 1:15 a.m. the victim heard palm trees outside her window begin to shake and then someone on the roof. She watched Ivey enter her bedroom, eyes big as if he was on drugs, but did not confront him out of fear he would harm her. The victim contacted a friend who called police, the affidavit states. Ivey went to the children’s bedroom and he heard him talking to himself and kicking the dresser.
She tip-toed and stood by the front door until officers arrived, Ivey’s arrest affidavit states, and she remained visibly shaken and scared, an officer noted in his report. Police located Ivey asleep in the children’s bedroom. He was treated for hand lacerations on scene.
Ivey is charged with stalking and burglary to an occupied dwelling and being held at the Lake County Jail on $11,000 bond.
