EUSTIS, Florida – A restaurant popular with judges and attorneys — which changed hands several times in recent months before closing– has been the site of a theft, according to an arrest report obtained by Lake Legal News.
Eustis Police responded to the now-closed 1884 in downtown Eustis, just before 2 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a burglary. According to the report, the new owner, Paul Borowiski told police he arrived at the restaurant around 9 a.m. that morning to find several things missing, including seven keg pulls, multiple bottles of wine, cigars and a toolbox with tools, valued at more than $1,000. A storage room door was taken off the hinges during the theft.
Upon review of security footage, Borowski observed two white males walking around the restaurant. One of the males, later identified as Richard Stesney, 50, was observed taking the keg pulls. Around 3 p.m. the two males returned and one explained he had permission to be there and Stesney was with him, but he was unaware of the thefts. Police spoke with Stesney, who admitted to taking the items. He was arrested and charged with grand theft.
Stesney was released from the Lake County Jail Thursday on $2,000 bond.
