LAKE COUNTY, Florida — A motorcyclist is dead after he struck a stopped a van near DeLand Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 82-year-old man was riding a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on State Road 44, near County Road 42 when he failed to slow for a stopped 2015 Honda van being driven by a 78-year-old Eustis man just before noon Thursday. The motorcycle struck the back of van and the rider was pronounced dead on the scene, FHP Lt. Kim Montes said in a press release; he was wearing a helmet. The van’s driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured.
