EUSTIS, Florida — Eustis Police Department is releasing few details in a pursuit that occurred Thursday night.
EPD conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the city Thursday night and a K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, EPD Officer J. Allred told Lake Legal News.
After the dog alerted, the driver started the vehicle and fled northbound on State Road 19 with officers in pursuit. Witnesses told LLN the pursuit continued through Umatilla and into Altoona.
“Officers pursued in marked patrol cars with lights and sirens,” Allred said. The pursuit was called off by officers after it reached “high and dangerous speeds,” Allred said. The driver escaped, but he has been identified by EPD, according to Allred. The case is still under investigation.
