ALTOONA, Florida — A 68-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday near Altoona, according to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Kim Montes.
An 81-year-old Umatilla man was travelling westbound shortly after 5 p.m. Friday on County Road 42 with a 79-year-old female passenger, also of Umatilla, in an SUV and the motorcyclist was stopped southbound on Big Oak Road. The SUV attempted to make a left turn onto Big Oak Road and struck the motorcyclist, ejecting him, according to a press release. The man, of Ocklawaha, was transported to AdventHealth Waterman in Tavares, where he later died; he was wearing a helmet.
The pair in the SUV were not injured, according to Montes, and they were both wearing their seatbelts. The crash is under investigation.
