PIERSON, Florida — A 23-year-old Leesburg man was killed Wednesday afternoon in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man was riding a motorcycle southbound on U.S. 17 behind a pickup truck being driven by a 62-year-old, also of Leesburg when the truck slowed to make a left turn onto East Fourth Avenue, shortly before 3 p.m., said FHP Lt. Kim Montes. The motorcycle struck the back of the truck and then traveled into the northbound lanes and struck a pickup truck head-on being driven by a 70-year-old of Seville. The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He was wearing a helmet.
FHP did not release the names of any of the drivers and the crash remains under investigation.
