LEESBURG, Florida — “Oh [expletive],” were the words a woman had for the deputy who found her climbing out of a window Thursday when law enforcement officers went to her home to arrest her for hitting a young boy on a bicycle and fleeing the scene nearly two weeks ago.
Cynthia Aspinwall Roberts, 53, also known as “Georgie Aspinwall” is accused of hitting a 5-year-old boy on a bicycle June 7 and leaving the scene. The boy said he was riding his bike on the side of the road in the area of Butler Street in Leesburg when he pulled off onto the shoulder and Roberts struck him, according to an arrest affidavit.
The boy was visibly upset and very emotional, but only received minor injuries, according to the affidavit. The boy’s father saw Roberts driving a tan vehicle, but not the actual crash and described her to police as a white woman in her 50s. An independent witness ran up to a Leesburg Police officer on scene and said the woman who hit the boy was “Georgie Aspinwall,” and “using investigative leads I was able to correlate ‘Georgie Aspinwall’ as a known alias of Cynthia Aspinwall Roberts who had a 1997 tan vehicle registered to her…,” the arresting officer stated in the affidavit.
The boy’s father identified Roberts in a photo line-up on June 12 and provided footage of the crash from a home security system to police. Efforts to find Roberts were unsuccessful.
On Thursday, Leesburg Police, along with a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy went to Roberts’ house in Leesburg and a young girl who answered the door said Roberts was not home. An LCSO deputy went behind the home and found Roberts jumping out of a window and when he identified himself, Roberts allegedly said, “Oh [expletive].”
Roberts was taken into custody and transported to Leesburg Police department where an officer found she was on probation for battery. She was taken to the Lake County Jail where she was booked on charges of leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and violation of probation. She is being held on no bond on the VOP. This is Roberts 12th booking in LCJ since 2010.
