LEESBURG, Florida — A Lady Lake man is in the Lake County Jail on no bond, charged with attempted murder stemming from a shooting in November 2019.
On Nov. 17, 2019, Leesburg Police responded to the area of Tractor Supply, 1706 Citrus Boulevard, Leesburg after a man said someone was trying to kill him. The victim told police he and a friend were traveling north on U.S. Highway 27 and as they stopped at the intersection at U.S. Highway 441, a vehicle rapidly approached them in the right lane and began shooting. The driver was shot in the upper right shoulder and through the right arm. The passenger was not shot, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The victim told police the vehicle sped through the intersection and was firing shots back towards him and the victim accelerated and went to the area of Tractor Supply. He saw a police officer and stopped for help; the victim was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Leesburg Police began its investigation and received information the victim was shot by Jalon Perry, 22, over a prior drug exchange between the victim and Perry’s friend. Perry was indentified in a photo lineup and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Perry turned himself in at the Lake County Jail shortly before 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. He is charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery with a weapon and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
