LEESBURG, Florida — With the help of a Leesburg Police K-9 officer, a Montverde man was busted after breaking into a church daycare early Saturday morning.
Leesburg Police officers responded to an alarm at Kids of Distinction, 315 North 15th Street, Leesburg and found a window open on the south side of the building, according to an arrest affidavit. Officers set up a perimeter and entered the building with a key provided by a victim on scene; they announced their presence and warned anyone inside that a K-9 officer was going to be deployed. K-9 Banner began searching the building and alerted near the restrooms. Officers found K-9 Banner in the men’s restroom while other officers found James Eddie Goble, 37, attempting to leave through a window in the women’s restroom.
Goble was taken into custody and told police he was homeless and went into the church because he wanted something to eat. Six stolen Cheese Heads cheese sticks were found in Goble’s fanny pack, according to the affidavit. Police also found a black CD case containing 300 CDs near the front door, along with a black backpack that contained 300 stolen pennies and a gaming system and a game valued at more than $300. A wallet containing identification from Nebraska was also found, but Goble denied knowing where it came from.
Goble was charged with burglary to an unoccupied dwelling and petit theft, second offense. He is being held in the Lake County Jail on $6,000 bond.
