MOUNT DORA, Florida — A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday after a van ran a stop sign, near the Lake County and Orange County line, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Steven Winters, 38, of Tavares was riding a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on U.S. Highway 441 when a 2002 Ford van being driven by Daniel Meeks, 55, of Clermont ran a stop sign while attempting to make a left turn to travel westbound onto to Old U.S. Highway 441.
The front of the motorcycle struck the right side of the van. Winters, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Orlando Health, where he died, said FHP Lt. Kim Montes. Meeks was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending against Meeks.
