TAVARES, Florida — The woman accused of voter registration fraud has turned herself in, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. John Herrell.
Cheryl A. Hall, 63, of Clermont turned herself in to the LCSO South Lake District Office around 1 p.m. Thursday, Herrell said. Hall is an employee of Florida First, of Winter Park. Florida First is an organization involved with soliciting voter registrations, Herrell said.
On Wednesday, Lake County Supervisor of Elections Alan Hays held a press conference and said his office, in conjunction with LCSO, was investigating at least 10 instances where a voter’s party affiliation had been changed. On Feb. 25, Hays’ office found unverified information on several applications and sent out notices to voters, Herrell said in a press release.
Pursuant to Florida Statute 104.011, it is a third degree felony to “willfully swears or affirm[ ] falsely to any oath or affirmation, or willfully procure[ ] another person to swear or affirm falsely to an oath or affirmation, in connection with or arising out of voting or elections.”
“We feel very confident we are ahead of this thing,” Hays said at the Wednesday press conference.
The investigation revealed Hall received serialized voter registration cards from her employer in packs of 50. Of those cards assigned to her, at least 10 contained information that was changed, and after receiving notice from Hays’ office, voters called and complained, launching the investigation.
Hall is facing 10 counts of voter registration fraud, she was released from the Lake County Jail on $20,000 bond.
