MOUNT DORA, Florida — A man who rented a garage from a woman’s parents around 20 years ago when she was a teenager was arrested for stalking the woman after she moved back into her childhood home.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim moved into the home on Nov. 27, 2019, and her neighbor, Christopher Allan Lind, 73, stood in his yard and stared at her while she moved in. Neighbors noticed Lind’s behavior and warned the victim the behavior was not normal for Lind unless he took an interest in someone, the affidavit states.
Over the next six weeks, Lind’s behavior escalated. He is accused of watching the victim, walking back and forth in front of her house, walking on her property and peeping into her bedroom window. Lind also walked onto her property uninvited holding an umbrella and a briefcase, the affidavit states.
The victim, an avid runner, had to stop running because Lind kept showing up where she was. She was in fear of conducting her normal activities because Lind knows when she’s home and awake due to surveillance cameras outside of his home, she told Mount Dora Police. She said Lind comes outside or opens his windows when she arrives home or goes outside. She told MDPD when she returned home from being out of town, she shut off all the lights on her vehicle and quietly walked into her home and Lind peered out his front door, watching her.
Lind rented the garage from her parents for a few months about 20 years ago when she was a teenager, the victim told police. Lind was supposed to return the key, but made entry into the home while her parents were asleep and startled them awake. Lind left when the victim’s father confronted him.
Lind was picked up Friday on a warrant for stalking and taken to the Lake County Jail. He was released on $5,000 bond.
