FERNDALE, Florida — A man who accidentally took a pack of cigarettes from a female friend was attacked by a man with a hammer and robbed of a cell phone after he brought the woman money for the cigarettes.
According to an arrest affidavit, a man told a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy he went to a home in Ferndale to pay for a pack of cigarettes he accidentally took from a female friend. As the man and his friends left the home, Roy Caleb Bilbruck, 33, allegedly struck the victim twice in the back of the head with a framing hammer. The victim fell to the ground and Bilbruck, of Ferndale, “snatched a black in color Moto 7 cell phone out of the victim’s hand,” the affidavit states. Two witnesses also told the deputy they saw Bilbruck strike the victim.
The victim was bloody and had two larges gashes on the back of his head, injuries consistent with being hit with a hammer, the arresting deputy noted in the affidavit.
Bilbruck was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and armed robbery. He is being held at the Lake County Jail on $60,000 bond.
