LEESBURG, Florida — A man wanted for an armed robbery in Marion County refused to surrender to authorities in Leesburg for more than three hours Saturday night, according to an arrest affidavit.
Shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, Leesburg Police Department received a teletype from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office advising Charles David Hall, 31, was sitting on the front porch of Savannah Manor Assisted Living Facility, 1027 West Main Street, Leesburg. Hall, believed to be armed and dangerous, was in possession of a stolen vehicle and was a suspect in an armed robbery, according to the teletype.
For approximately two hours, police watched Hall walk back and forth from the building to a red Nissan SUV that was stolen out of Marion County until he finally got into the SUV and pulled out of the parking lot.
Police initiated a traffic stop and Hall pulled over at the Sunoco at the corner of 12th Street and Main Street. Police asked Hall to exit the vehicle, but he refused and would only communicate with officers by yelling through the open driver’s side window, the affidavit states.
Officers called in negotiators and a tactical team and after about three hours of negotiations, Hall, of Umatilla, surrendered. Upon searching Hall, officers found a revolver in a makeshift holster in his waistband and a round of ammunition in his right pocket.
Hall was given a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license, along with being charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon and resisting arrest without violence. He is being held in the Lake County Jail on $103,000 bond; charges are pending against him for grand theft auto and armed robbery in Marion County.
